WASHER HOSES
Avoid a mess with preventative maintenance
How often do you think about, or check, the two hoses that supply your washing machine with hot and cold water?
If you’re like most people, you probably never think about washer hoses until they fail. But a failed washer hose can make a huge mess. It could flood your home and cause extensive damage.
Inspecting your washer hoses. Checking your washer hoses is a simple process. Look for leaks or cracks and inspect the washer hoses to see if they have any visible bulges. Also make sure your machine has at least four inches of clearance from the wall to prevent the hoses from kinking.
Be sure you know where your washer shutoff valves are, too. If one of your washer hoses should burst, you can minimize the mess and damage by quickly shutting the water off. It’s also a good idea to never leave home while your washing machine is running.
Replacements. Replace your washer hoses immediately if you do find any kind of leak, bulge or crack. It’s also a good idea to replace the washer hoses with reinforced stainless steel hoses if they are three years old or more, when you move or if you replace your washing machine.
